The first Embassy jūdōka, two women, began studying in 1904.

Our dōjō (place of study) was established 1959 by Satō Shizuya sensei 佐藤静弥 (1922-2011), Kōdōkan International Division instructor, student of Mifune Kyūzō 三船久蔵 10dan and colleague of Daigo Toshirō 醍醐俊朗 10dan, helped introduce jūdō to the West in the 1950s. Satō sensei was the founder and 10dan of Nihon Jūjutsu, based on the pre-WWII Aikijūjutsu of Ueshiba Morihei O-sensei and Tomiki Kenji sensei.
